ELSIE ROSCOE (nee HEUCHERT) March 30, 1907 - May 16, 2008 Peacefully, on May 16, 2008, after a brief illness, Elsie Roscoe, aged 101 years, passed away at Concordia Hospital. Elsie was born in Winnipeg on March 30, 1907 and lived her entire life in Elmwood and East Kildonan. She was predeceased by her brother Bill in 1962, her mother Emma in 1969, and her husband Sam in 1976. She is survived by her loving son Mel, of Winnipeg. Elsie went to Lord Selkirk School, and was a member of the Elmwood Ladies Curling Club, Gordon-King Memorial United Church (for 87 years), the Daughters of the Nile, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Jephthah Chapter #22 (for over 50 years). Elsie worked tirelessly for those less fortunate than her, knitting hundreds of scarves, touques, mitts and slippers for many of the charities and missions throughout the city. She really enjoyed travelling, especially with her gang of old girls on the seniors' bus to North Dakota. She also made many trips to Toronto and Vancouver, well into her mid 90's, to visit her son Mel and his friends, and go sailing with him on his sailboat ELSAM , which was so proudly named after her and his father. It has been a wonderful journey through life for Elsie, one of grace and dignity. She, along with her infectious smile and sense of humour, will be sadly missed by her many friends, both young and old, throughout the country. Cremation has taken place, and in keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal or memorial services. There will be a private graveside service at a later date, when her remains will be interred, and her marker placed in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery. HEAVEN JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT FRIENDLIER Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. - 338-0331 Send expressions of sympathy at www.mem.com.
